Such a beautiful, wonderful place! We will definitely be back for peace and quiet away from the hustle and bustle of Tulum and Cancun. Truly an adventure not to be missed!Airbnb
LOVE LIVES HERE. For those of us who aren't into tourist traps but love to be completely immersed in the beauty of Mother Nature, Alvaro's home is the greatest piece of paradise that you will find on this planet. We had the most amazing retreat and all of our attendees continued to praise the magnificence of the location. The couple that lives there, Josue and his wife Yoz, are incredibly loving and helpful. During the day we napped in the hammocks, played in the water and at night we built bonfires and looked up at the stars. SO MANY STARS!! You can actually see the milky way galaxy across the sky. What a magical place. The only negative feedback I have is that the last night we were there, a storm came in and water was flooding in from the roof. The beds were soaked in 4 of the rooms and most of us weren't able to sleep because we were moving the beds around trying to find a dry spot. I truly tried my best to put the experience into words but this was beyond language. Come here if you're looking to deepen your connection to yourself and the universe.Airbnb
Excellent getaway, place, and service. The road from Tulum to the place is crazy, so make sure you stock well on groceries and drinks. The owner informed us well and was always available over the phone. The housekeepers are excellent people and very helpful. The place was everything our group of 12 needed to enjoy our vacation.Airbnb
gracias por todo! increibleAirbnb
Great spot to escapeAirbnb
Altamente recomendable !!Airbnb
Alvaro's property is literally paradise on earth, I can't thank him enough for sharing this amazing place with us. The house is super eco-friendly but yet very comfortable to accommodate large groups (we were 17 people) and beautiful. The beach is completely private and stunning, ideal for sun tanning, playing volleyball and kayaking (among other activities). We are glad we chose the lovely Sian Ka'an reserve for a family reunion, and do not regret the decision to stay over at a place close enough but still isolated from the touristy Tulum. I would highly suggest to inquire about the chef service that Alvaro knows so you can enjoy your time without the hassle of grocery shopping (about 40 min from Casa Camara) and cooking. Alvaro and his staff at the property were super helpful and available 24/7, they even set up a tour for us to explore the reserve. Please do yourself a favor and visit this lovely place!Airbnb
This home is a gem and the staff that runs it, even more so. You will have your own slice of paradise with this place, spacious home with tons of charm, incredible outdoor living and a private beach that will take your breath away. Alberto, Audriana and Alejandro were nothing short of AMAZING in making sure we had everything we needed, at all times. I would recommend renting a car and having Alberto drive you. The house is about 40 minute (bumby) ride from the hotel zone and having Alberto take us to dinner each night and pick us up was so worth the added cost. Our final night was perfection with a wonderful meal cooked by Audriana, which we enjoyed at our cabana on the beach, along with the bonfire made for us. Book this place, you will not regret it!Airbnb
What can I say about a place so unique, beautiful, and peaceful other than I'm glad I was able to be here. Alvaro was a gentleman of a host and I am thankful that he opened his piece of paradise for me and my family to enjoy. This place must be seen to be believed. This is the most 'local' and unique experience I've found. Truly the definition of getting away, but still with the amenities you and all of your friends and loved ones need. Activities abound, like kayaks, volleyball, tours of the nature preserve, and many more. Of course relaxing on the beach and swimming in the clear Caribbean waters all day is an option as well. The beauty of this place really steals the show, and the people. Such good people. I will be back soon to enjoy Casa Camara at Rancho San Juan once again.Airbnb
We traveled to Casa Camara with a group of three families--18 people total. The location is amazing. The beach is well maintained. If you want to get away and have a beautiful beach all to yourself, this is the place. The view is stunning. There are a lot of beach amenities that make it fun: three sea kayaks, snorkeling gear (the nearest reef for snorkeling is about 500 meters off shore), volleyball, hammocks, sand toys, boogie boards, a pergola, and beach chairs. The home has six bedrooms and six bathrooms; four of the bedrooms have two queen beds each (2 bedrooms have king beds), so we all had a place to sleep. All bedrooms have exterior entries. There is a large, beautiful outdoor patio for relaxing, dining, and playing games. There is also a large combined dining room/sitting room inside the home. The drive to the home is 3 hours long if you travel from the Cancun Airport. The last hour is a bumpy dirt road from Tulum. The air conditioning wasn't functioning the week we were there. There was a nice ocean breeze and the home felt cool enough at night. The kitchenette in the living area has a small range, a sink, and one counter which made food prep a little tricky, but there is another kitchen you can use in the back of the home. The staff was friendly and kept the property in good condition. We did most of our own food prep and clean up. It is a great location if you want to just stay at the home and relax. It is a long drive to anywhere. You will want to bring all your food with you or coordinate a chef service. They did provide all the bottled water we needed for the week. Alvaro Camara, the owner, was easy to communicate with and always responded to queries promptly. We are rating it five stars because it is one of the most amazing and unique places you could stay. But if you are looking for an all inclusive experience or a lot of conveniences, this might not be the right fit.HomeAway

A real Paradise on a private beach in the middle of the Sian Kaan Biosphere Reserve, a beautiful caribbean style house with all the amenities, the perfect match to enjoy nature and confort. I went with my family and friends, the most wonderfull experience that we will certainly repeat!TripAdvisor
“Small piece of paradise” This property is just amazing!!! If you are looking for privacy you found your place. I took a group for a yoga retreat and our experience was wonderful. The owner and housekeepers where amazing and so helpful. The house is like 1.5 hours from Tulum going on a dirt road (be open mind about that) but after you get to the property is so worth it. Very private, clean (nothing luxurious but an amazing beach house) with gorgeous sunrises and sunsets, perfect for groups or larger families looking for privacy. Would definitely go back to the houseTripAdvisor
Totalmente recomendableTripAdvisor
Originally a copra ranch (Coconut products) that was acquired by the Camara family 50 years ago, after the red palm mite plague that affected the production of copra in Yucatan peninsula region, the ranch was remodeled to make a small holiday home, and with the years the house grew to become the ‘Casa Cámara’ of today.
Now the Casa Cámara has opened its doors to accommodate people who likes experiences at nature and far from the cities.
San Juan is located inside the Biosphere Reserve of the Sian Ka'an, approximately 19 miles (32 kilometers) from the city of Tulum.
When leaving Cancun airport to the right and get to the Cancun-Playa del Carmen highway.
You will pass through Puerto Morelos and then arrive to Playa Del Carmen in about 50 minutes, next follow the Playa Del Carmen-Tulum sing until in approximately 40 minutes to the archaeological zone of Tulum.
You must follow the highway and enter the city of Tulum, and turn left on the first traffic light.
A little after you follow this road, you will pass the hotel zone of Tulum, and when you arrive to the ‘Arco Maya’, [Maya Arch] you will reach a security booth, this is the access of Sian Ka’an, form there, you will follow a sand road for 19 miles (32 kilometers) until arriving to San Juan.
In the Mayan language, Sian Ka’an means ‘where the sky is born’, or ‘gift from the sky’. The Sian Ka’an Biosphere Reserve is a 1.3 million acre nature reserve just south of Tulum in the Riviera Maya. This protected reserve is inhabited by countless plant species, bird and animals. Add 23 known archaeological sites to the list of attractions and you are bound to have an adventure.
The main entrance is located on the Tulum beach road to the south of the Tulum hotel beach zone. There are few services in Sian Ka’an other than pre-booked guided tours and a few random small restaurants. The area is known for its fly fishing, bird watching and other eco-focused activities.
Sian Ka’an is a UNESCO World Heritage site and protected biosphere in the southern portion of the Riviera Maya. This protected national treasure is enormous, approximately 1.3 million acres in total, spanning 120 kilometers from north to south and comprising almost one third of the Caribbean coast of Mexico. With a rich historical background, diverse ecosystem and large waterways, the Sian Ka’an Biosphere is treasured by locals and visitors alike.
The northernmost section of Sian Ka’an contains what is thought to be an ancient trade route through the lagoons and mangrove channels between the cities of Tulum and Muyil. The fishing industry is still one of the most important economic activities for the residents in the reserve. Common species include spiny lobster, tarpon, grouper, permit, and snapper. Tourism is one of the main sources of income for fishermen in Sian Ka’an, who are hired to run boat trips to the reefs and lagoon systems with local guides who share the history and environmental richness of this area.
Low-impact human activities and sustainable development occur in the area of the reserve known as ‘the Buffer Zone’. This area is comprised of lagoons, the Caribbean coast and jungle. With the assistance of local guides, visitors can travel by boat or kayak and learn about the flora and fauna indigenous to the area and observe over 300 species of birds, both migratory and local. The human population is estimated at 2,000 inhabitants, the majority of which are located in the coastal regions, especially in the fishing villages of Punta Allen and Punta Herrero.
